## Meaning

EOD stands for "end of day": the end of today's working day, usually used as a deadline.

"Can you send it by EOD?" means "before you finish work today". EOD is flexible: some people mean 5 or 6 pm, others mean before midnight. In global teams it is unclear whose day it is, so good communicators add a time zone: "EOD Pacific" or "by 6 pm IST". Related terms are EOW (end of week) and COB (close of business), which in practice mean almost the same as EOD.

## When you hear it

Your manager writes: "Please share the bug report by EOD."

## Examples

- **in Slack:** "Could you send me the final numbers by EOD?"
- **in a standup:** "I'll finish the API docs by EOD and start on testing tomorrow."
- **in a global team email:** "Please submit your feedback by EOD Friday, Pacific time."

## What native speakers say

- "I'll have it to you by EOD."
- "Can you review the PR by EOD today?"
- "EOD my time, which is 6 pm CET."

## Common mistakes

- ✗ "I'll send it until EOD." → ✓ "I'll send it by EOD." (Use "by" for deadlines. "Until" means something continues up to that time.)
- ✗ "Please send by EOD. (to a team in five time zones)" → ✓ "Please send by EOD Pacific time (6 pm PT)." (EOD depends on where you are. Add a time zone when your team is spread out.)
- ✗ "EOD tomorrow today." → ✓ "by EOD tomorrow" (Keep the day clear: "EOD today", "EOD tomorrow" or "EOD Friday".)

## Be careful

EOD is vague across time zones. Add a time zone or an exact time when the deadline really matters.
