## Meaning

EOW stands for "end of week": the end of this working week, usually Friday afternoon, used as a deadline.

"Can we have the draft by EOW?" means "before the end of Friday". It is the weekly version of EOD. In teams where the week ends on a different day, or across many time zones, it can be unclear, so people sometimes write "EOW Friday" or "by Friday 5 pm".

## When you hear it

Your manager says: "No rush, EOW is fine."

## Examples

- **in Slack:** "No rush on the review, EOW is fine."
- **in sprint planning:** "Our goal is to have the API stable by EOW."
- **in a status update:** "Testing is on track; we expect sign-off by EOW."

## What native speakers say

- "EOW is fine for this."
- "Can you get me a first draft by EOW?"
- "Let's aim to merge it by EOW."

## Common mistakes

- ✗ "I'll finish it until EOW." → ✓ "I'll finish it by EOW." (Use "by" for deadlines.)
- ✗ "EOW means Sunday." → ✓ "EOW usually means the end of the working week, Friday." (People rarely mean the weekend.)
- ✗ "EOW (to a team where Friday is a holiday)" → ✓ "by Thursday 5 pm" (When the week is unusual, give the exact day.)

## Be careful

For important deadlines, name the day and time zone instead of EOW.
