## Meaning

OOO stands for "out of office": you are away from work and not available, for example on vacation, sick or travelling.

OOO appears in calendar blocks, Slack statuses and email auto-replies: "OOO until Monday". It does not say why you are away, only that you are not working. An "OOO message" or "OOO reply" is the automatic email people get while you are gone. In speech, people usually say "I'm out next week" or "I'm off on Friday".

## When you hear it

You see a teammate's calendar marked "OOO" for the whole week of your release.

## Examples

- **in a calendar block:** "OOO: dentist appointment, 2 to 4 pm."
- **in Slack:** "Heads-up, Maria is OOO today, so ask Tom about the release."
- **in an auto-reply:** "I'm OOO until 3 June. For urgent issues, please contact Sam."

## What native speakers say

- "OOO until Monday, back on the 14th."
- "I'll be OOO next week with limited access to email."
- "Set your OOO before you leave."

## Common mistakes

- ✗ "I am in OOO." → ✓ "I am OOO. / I'm out of office." (Do not add "in". Say "I'm OOO" or "I'm out of the office".)
- ✗ "I will OOO tomorrow." → ✓ "I will be OOO tomorrow." (Use "be OOO"; it is a state, not an action.)
- ✗ "OOO (auto-reply with no return date)" → ✓ "OOO until Monday 14 June. For urgent issues, contact Sam." (A good OOO message gives a return date and a backup contact.)

## Be careful

OOO is fine internally. In client emails, write "out of the office" in full.
