This Privacy Policy describes how Speak Tech English (“we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and protects personal information when you use the Speak Tech English app at app.speaktechenglish.com (the “App”). The App is operated by Speak Tech English and is a companion to our main website at speaktechenglish.com.
Information we collect
When you create an account or use the App, we may collect:
- Name and email address (when you sign up with email or Google)
- Account credentials managed by our authentication provider
- Profile information you choose to save in your account settings
- Basic usage data needed to operate and secure the App
- If you use the AI speaking coach: your voice while a talk is running, the written transcript of each talk (what you and the coach said), and the feedback and scores it produces
AI speaking coach
When you talk to the AI speaking coach, your voice is sent to our speech provider, ElevenLabs, to be turned into text and to generate the coach's replies. We do not store audio recordings ourselves; ElevenLabs may keep call audio for a limited time under its own retention settings. We keep the transcript of each talk, with your level, accent and feedback, in your account so you can see your progress and mistakes.
Our teachers review transcripts, with your name and email removed, to improve how the coach teaches. We may also use these de-identified transcripts to train and improve our own AI models. We never sell transcripts or share them for advertising. You can ask us to delete your transcripts at any time by emailing us (see Contact below), and we will also delete them if you delete your account.
How we use your information
We use your information to:
- Create and manage your Speak Tech English account
- Deliver technical-English lessons and related emails you sign up for
- Send onboarding and account-related communications
- Improve, secure, and support the App
- Comply with legal obligations
Google Sign-In
If you sign in with Google, we receive basic profile information from Google (such as your name and email address) solely to create and authenticate your account. Google's use of your data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy. We do not use Google Sign-In data for advertising.
Third-party services
We use trusted service providers to operate the App, including:
- Authentication and database hosting (Supabase)
- Email delivery for account and onboarding messages (Resend)
- Newsletter and lesson delivery (Beehiiv), when you subscribe
- Speech recognition, voices and live conversation for the AI coach (ElevenLabs)
- Writing lessons and feedback for the AI coach (Anthropic)
These providers process data on our behalf under appropriate agreements and only as needed to provide the App.
Data sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with service providers listed above, or when required by law, to protect our rights, or with your consent.
Data retention and security
We retain personal information only as long as needed to provide the App, comply with legal obligations, and resolve disputes. We implement reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data.
Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data, or to object to certain processing. Contact us to exercise these rights.
