action plan

In simple English

An action plan is a concrete roadmap that breaks down a goal or issue into manageable tasks. In tech companies, action plans are created after identifying problems (bugs, delays, performance issues) or when launching new initiatives. Each task in an action plan typically includes what needs to be done, who is responsible, when it must be completed, and sometimes the resources required. Action plans differ from simple to-do lists because they are more structured, measurable, and often presented to stakeholders. You will hear this term in sprint planning meetings, post-mortem discussions, and when addressing project risks or blockers.

Don't say this

Handle with care. Do not use as a verb (saying 'we action plan this' is incorrect; instead say 'we will create an action plan'). Do not confuse with a vague to-do list—an action plan requires specific tasks, owners, and deadlines.
