Meta Buys Conductor, an AI Tool for Building Software Projects

Meta has acquired Conductor, an AI coding startup that helps software engineers build projects faster.

Conductor was founded in 2024 and released its first product last summer. The startup's main tool lets developers use multiple AI agents to work on different parts of a project at the same time.

Each agent works in its own space on the cloud or on a computer.

The agents that Conductor uses come from other major AI companies like Anthropic and OpenAI. They are not built by Conductor itself.

Charlie Holtz, Conductor's founder and CEO, announced the deal on his blog and social media. He said the company has "big plans" and will release "something new" for customers by early next year.

Holtz is excited to work with Meta's AI leaders, Alexandr Wang and Nat Friedman. He said their team has very talented people.

Meta confirmed it bought Conductor but gave no other details about the deal. Until early next year, Conductor will continue to work as it does now.

However, the company's cloud service will close on November 20, and user data will be deleted after that.

Meta has been trying to catch up in AI tools for developers. In August, Meta launched Muse Code, its own AI coding agent.

Meta's other AI agents, called Muse, now have more than 10 million users. Meta has also bought several other AI companies this year.

This deal shows Meta's plan to become much stronger in AI tools. Conductor will help Meta's AI team work faster and build better products.

Exercise 4

Further discussion

Have a discussion based on the following questions.
