How to Say "P0" at Work

In simple English

In tech companies, P0 refers to the most urgent issues in a triage or severity system. When a bug is labeled P0, it means the entire team should stop current work and focus on fixing it right away. P0 issues typically block core functionality, cause data corruption, or create security vulnerabilities. The classification system usually runs from P0 (critical) through P1 (high), P2 (medium), and P3 (low). Once something is marked P0, it becomes the top priority for engineers and may trigger incident response protocols or all-hands meetings to resolve it quickly.

in a code review

"This memory leak could cause crashes in production. I am marking it as P0 severity."

in a team meeting

in Slack

"Just filed a P0: users cannot complete checkout on mobile devices."

in a retrospective

"We should have caught that P0 issue earlier in testing."

Don't say this

Handle with care. P0 is a severity label, not a task type. Do not use it to describe general work items or low-priority bugs. Confusing P0 with P1 or P2 severity levels can cause miscommunication about urgency.

I have three P0 bugs to fix this week.
I have three P2 bugs to fix this week.P0 should only describe critical issues that block work immediately. Multiple P0s per week suggests the label is being overused. If you have multiple high-priority items, they are probably P1 or P2.
Can you P0 this feature request?
Can you mark this feature request as P1?P0 is for bugs or issues, not feature requests. Feature requests should use a different priority system or be marked P1-P3 based on business impact.
We should P0 the UI improvements.
We should mark the UI improvements as P2 or defer them.P0 is reserved for critical problems, not improvements or enhancements.
That is a small P0 issue.
That is a P2 issue. If an issue is small or easily fixed, it is not P0. P0 issues are always critical and urgent, regardless of fix size.
