punt

punt — At work, to punt on something means to delay a decision or task, or push it to someone else, usually because it is not a priority now.

In simple English

"Let's punt on the dark mode until next quarter" means "let's not deal with it now". The word comes from American football, where a team kicks the ball away when they cannot score. It can be neutral (a smart choice to delay) or slightly negative ("he just punted the problem to another team"). In British English, "punt" can also mean a small bet or a flat boat, which is unrelated.

How to say it: Say "punt" to rhyme with "hunt".
