SME

SME — At work, SME usually stands for "subject matter expert": the person who knows a topic or system best and answers questions about it.

In simple English

In tech teams, the SME is the go-to person for a system, domain or process: "Ana is our SME for payments." You pull in the SME when you need a decision or a deep answer. People say the letters ("an S-M-E") or say it as a word ("a smee"). Be careful: in business news, SME also means "small and medium-sized enterprise", so context matters.

How to say it: Say the letters "ess-em-ee". You may also hear "smee" as one word.
