change freeze

In simple English

A change freeze is a deliberate halt on deploying new changes to live systems. It is commonly used in tech companies to reduce the risk of introducing bugs or system failures during vulnerable periods, such as right before a major product launch, during holiday seasons when support teams are understaffed, or before important business events. During a change freeze, teams can still develop and test code, but they cannot deploy it to production. Only critical bug fixes or security patches may be exempted, depending on company policy. This practice helps ensure system stability and allows teams to focus on monitoring existing systems rather than managing new deployments.

Understand what a change freeze is and when companies implement it before major releases or critical periods.

We cannot code anything during the change freeze.
